Every tattoo artist has a different theory about what to use on your tattoo so it heals the best. I always just do whatever my artist tells me.

I have quite a few tattoos and I love them all. I think once you get one you usually get more whether one or a ton, and it's because the art of them is so addicting.

Another trick for the itchy part of the healing in addition to the slapping (this was almost worse for me than getting the tattoo itself) is an ice pack. Stopped the itching immediately and for quite a while afterward.
